I renewed my love for printmaking over 10 years ago (it was started at school, more years ago than I would like to say). My first love is, and always will be, linocut; it is so versatile and gives you such wonderful effects. In contrast, I also like drypoint (Intaglio printing from plastic) which can give clean lines and fine definition.
I am always up for new challenges and have recently attended Curwen Print Studios certificate course where I tried and enjoyed other forms of printmaking.
My desire to make better prints made me think that I needed to improve my drawing skills. So I enrolled in a course called “Drawing for the Absolutely Terrified”. That went extremely well, and I progressed from drawing classes to painting classes.
I love drawing with a pencil: I think it is a wonderfully versatile tool, but I also like using pastels and charcoal.
I paint in acrylics, oils and watercolour.
I also enjoy playing with colour and texture by mixing media and making collages.
My inspirations and main themes are the shapes and patterns found in nature and the man-made world. I like a nice mis-shapen tree, an old fence post or broken gates. I work mainly from my own photographs, usually taken in the countryside around my home in East Anglia.
